A sidekick, master of disguise, unsung hero who always saves the day - it's Brain from Inspector Gadget.
Many people remember this show for it's bondage/peril scenes with inspector's niece Penny - nosy girl got into trouble almost every episode, but luckily for her, Brain was always there to come and save her and her clumsy uncle. Considering how often this happened to Penny, it's kind of funny how rarely Brain himself got into trouble - besides at least one famous among bondage freaks like me episode where he was tied to chair and gagged, it's hard to remember anything where he was in distress.
I'd say, it's a shame - he certainly looks good in ropes.
